It seems obvious to me that the West (USA and its puppet NATO) doesn't want to escalate this crisis into a hot war against Russia, because if cornered Russia will use its nukes. No one wants that to happen.
The sanctions will hurt Russia as much as, if not more, they will hurt the West. China will not let Russia lose in this war which is actually against the West's expansion, because if Russia falls, China may be the next. So I am sure a peaceful settlement will be negotiated soon.
