When any partner nation is under attack, the others rally to it's defense. This of course means offensive operation against the attacker. When the Taliban hosted Al Qaeda terrorists and their terrorist training camps, it enabled an attack on one of the partners. And the partners responded with offensive operations in Afghanistan to eliminate the threat emanating from there.
If Russia attacks Poland, Russia can expect to be itself attacked by the NATO partners, coming to Polands aid.
