What the pro’s do is this….

Build the aftermarket auction to look like it’s going to close at 13c. What this does is creates a bit of confidence amongst those looking to take some profits or short term day traders to place their sell orders below 13c, say 12.5c or 12c etc. Their algorithms make sure that the equilibrium is kept at that price point during the auction jostling (they have buys and sells in the auction to achieve this balance by adding to either side as needed). Then with a split second to go their algorithm adjusts their buy or sell side order (whichever is required for their desired outcome) to ensure the sell side in this case has a surplus of 1 share vs the buy side and hence stepping the price down on the close. This serves two purposes, one is to create the look of price weakness and two is to acquire shares at a discount. This form of manipulation can and does get played to the upside too. As frustrating as it is, it shows that we have bigger players wanting to build a large position. Most people say oh but that one share was part of a bigger sell order, yes it was, what they don’t realise is why that 1 share formed part of a seperate transaction, it’s because everyone in the buy side auction at 13c and above was filled and the person at the front of the queue at 12.5c had 1 share of their buy order filled due to some fancy last millisecond algorithmic adjustments.
