"The people who are learned and experiences are the ones who’ve been running the show for ever,". ...... unfortunately this is not true. the problems these people face daily run far deeper than appears on the surface.... and its the surface presentation that most here are focusing on.

First Australians with lived experience and deep knowledge to the cultural issues weren't consulted by Howard and his team, just as Abbott went to the "trial holiday camp" but thought he already knew all the answers and so went to tell them what should be done rather than to listen.

there's an ideological hypocrisy creeping into this debate.... conservative want all the exe cerise "individual freedom" and less Govt intervention, yet they call constantly for "more policing" and telling people what to eat/drink. And "shutting down communities"? shades of Abbottesque patronising BS. "Its a lifestyle choice"? Nonsense. its their right to live on their ancestral lands, to try to re-capture their culture and still have some of the creature comforts that all Australians take for granted.

I would love to ban high sugar drinks, MacDonalds atrocious "food", alcohol (THE most dangerous addictive drug in the world, including tobacco and heroin according to the WHO).

Intoxication is one of the main factors contributing to the problems these people face.
