    Obviously since your a us expat (is that correct by your name), you would probably know more about that side of things than I would.

    However even fiscally that doesn't make sense. The F-35 is deemed to be the main replacement for alot of the aircraft currently in use in the various armed services.

    From what I remeber the VTOL/STOL version for the Navy would replace the F-18, and EA-6B (Prowler - think that is the number designation). The Marines it would replace the F-18, possibly the AV-8B Harrier Jump Jets. The Air Force - well what wouldn't it replace. The F-22, F-18, F-15, F-16, possibly the B-1 and B-2 - though I think they will keep those for 'strategic purposes'. Most of those aircraft will probably go towards the reserves/guard units.

    It makes sense that they would push this through, so that costs of maintenance of over 12 different aircraft at minimum are significantly reduced. Saves them money long term.
