Are there any plans to expand the Horizon power network up in the Pilbara? I'm assuming the current operation just runs on diesel gen sets, which is expensive and assume the processing is quite energy intensive. Suspect this would be a bigger exposure to the oil/diesel price than the transport to port.
The network does run to Newman, but not to where E25's operation is. I think the network has historically been built to service the iron ore operations, however with the explosion of battery materials (primarily lithium and manganese in the Pilbara) wonder whether they are looking to expand the network further south and east where there are likely to be lots of projects in the future.
Would make a big difference to the economics of these projects I suspect, and would make it a lot easier to meet sustainability goals. I think Alinta recently commissioned a significant grid connected solar farm at Chinchilla, would expect there are a lot of good solar resources up there.
