From everything that’s come out after the fact it looks like Rio hid a lot of the cost over runs and maybe mismanagement of the resource was to blame, hence sorting things out with the Mongolian Government and now buying out turquoise hill. Puts them in the box seat going forward to get things back on track and get rid of any lingering headaches. Pity they couldn’t keep going and look down the road and throw $500m at Xanadu to buy out Kharmagtai
