    Carimakan:

Ignore the biased comments of the previous poster... ;)

Couple of points: TA and FA both have their places, but I summarize them as follows:

FA tells us what the price OUGHT to do

TA tells us what the price IS doing

Having said that, the TA measures the market sentiment, which of course is what traders need to know. Long term investors, though, would probably want more of the FA. Horses for courses!

    Books:

Start with "Secrets of profiting in bull and bear markets" by Stanley Weinstein. This is the book on which all modern TA is based, even though it was written in 1988. Still highly relevant, easy to read, and will lay the groundwork. May be the only one you ever need to read.

Others I'd recommend would be "Come into my trading room" by Alexander Elder, and "Trend Following" by Michael Covel.

There are hundreds of others, but if you get the hang of just those three, you should be able to formulate your own set of rules for trading and of course rule number 1 is "always obey your rules".

Always remember that you can only trade the right hand edge of a chart - everything to the left is history. but FA is the same - all forward estimates, analyses, etc etc are guesswork. The analysts would have us believe that it is science and fact, but it isn't. They would call it an educated guess - but it's still a guess.
