It's to do with building a company not speculation.

People especially institutions don't spend years putting together projects so short termers or day traders can make a quick buck, presumably because they are so much smarter than investors.

I can tell you which of the two actually make money and it's precisely due to long term human endeavour of return on capital and effort (productivity).

I've been at it a while in resources as: employee; manager; investor and quasi academic.

Though I value your sentiment because Trading is a zero sum game.
