way before any regulatory need to declare takeover intent, there is the requirement to declare "substantial shareholding" once accumulation reaches and exceeds 5% of shares on issue and every time this status changes once 5% has been exceeded. whether this reporting can be, is/will be legally enforced with legal penalties successfully applied for failure to do so... who knows... from memory, i seem to recall some sort of mention of russians reportedly holding huge big chunks of FMG at one stage but didnt bother to declare it.
btw, the wedgetail issue, cant say that i'm surprised about it as it's not new news. i seem to remember that some sort of announcement was made back those days about some such problem as those of you involved right from the start might also remember vaguely. bit tedious to go back through all those mountainous asx announcement back though a period sooo long ago for a non-issue anyhow...
