the kids need to be taught to have an inquisitive mind...
if nothing else....the rest is at their fingertips..
ie on the net...but they have to wade through all the rubbish to find the truth...
just reading the news today, has proved to be worthless....there is no truth or debate..look at the climategate and only the one sided global warming coming from the news..
this from another blogger on another site....
have four teenage nieces. A month or so ago I was talking with one of them and she brought up global warming and how we had to do something about it. I asked her if she knew that not everyone agreed that there was global warming, or that it was caused by CO2 increases or that an ETS proposed by the govt would help even if it were true. She was absolutely shocked. So after that we discussed researching subjects for oneself, questioning, not accepting without question what is taught at school. Then I brought up progressive taxation.
Now my neice thought that it was immensely fair to take more tax from the rich people and give it to the poor in the form of welfare. But when I asked her if she would be happy if I took part of her wages (she works at a local supermarket after school) and give it to someone in her class who doesnt work, she was no longer so sure. She had never thought about it. She then asked a few more questions, and a new young conservative was born. I also suggested that she keep her new views to herself while at school, as I didnt want to jeopardise her studies. She is dux of her year after all.
