If you ask me maths and spelling are tested objectively in the sense if you learn the rules there is generally one answer.So right and wrong is usually black and white. Some of the other subjects have been and always will be subjective where the answer is open to interpretation and/or misinterpretation. From this your kid may actually be quite smart but in regard to the other subjects the teacher(s) may not be able to relate to your kid because they may not necessarily be, or even capable of, coming from the right angle.
