picture this...
1000 people need an immediate drug due to some ill effect of whatever. Theres no way a doctors going to slap on a patch and wait for the drug to seep into the skin and in the bloodsteam.
bugger that, id rather a needle right in the ass n get that vaccine/drug straight into me for immediate effect.
