    Captain James Cook had something to say about that....

    "They are wholy unacquainted with the superfluous conveniences so much sought after in Europe...the Earth and sea of their own accord furnishes them will all things necessary for life".

    "these people may truly be said to be in the pure state of nature, and may appear to some to be the most wretched upon the earth; but in reality they are far happier than ... we Europeans."

    Interestingly, these positive reports about aborigines in Australia were "edited" out of Cook's articles for public consumption in Britain. Didn't make the government look good did it?
