About half of the increase is to cover the cost of the proposed federal carbon pollution reduction scheme, and the increases will be trimmed accordingly if the scheme does not go ahead.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal today released a draft determination for regulated retail electricity prices recommending increases of between 44 per cent and 62 per cent over three years from July 2010.
If IPART goes ahead with the proposed increases in March next year, EnergyAustralia's prices will rise by 10 per cent in 2010-11, 16 per cent in 2011-12 and 25 per cent in 2012-13.
