Hi Glug ,
Is it really 4 years since the last election?
I disagree with your views on negative gearing.
If I borrow to invest , the costs of that borrowing are a legitimate cost , whatever I am investing in.
The problem arises at the other end, where my capital gains are not taxed as income.
So , I will say , just like last time , leave negative gearing alone , change cgt back to taxing real [after inflation] gains as normal income.
ie , the original Keating cgt .
Most of the incentives to abuse the system disappear with that simple change.
cheers
