What happens is the co. eventually goes to raise the capital you hold a large number of cheap shares but can buy an equivalent number for a song. If you ever top up a little you eventually get a super-charged result.
E.g. Metals X -MLX. I had some it fell from Say 80c to 8c. I buy $2,000 at 8c so I don't get diluted. It is now roughly 70c. So that $2k turned into $18,000 plus the original ones*.

All one has to do is be right at the start. Do you think having high to super high-grade when Cu goes $6lb/lb may be that? There's a lot to be said for patience or the bottom drawer.** Just don't expect to get quick. As I used to say to my clients -Get rich slow is doable, quick, not so much.

All IMVHO and it to be taken as advice and sorry for being verbose.

* I've had it the other way too, being talked out of a share that fell to 4c that when to 21c on the original premise.
