The company had no choice but to withdraw the TGA submission. It wouldn't have succeeded because they knew what was required and couldn't provide it.
IMO the proposed trial will meet the requirements, but you are correct, it will take time. But being filly funded is a big big plus and massively decreases the financial burden on the company.
