It's all about loss of face. How can they admit that they were sucked in by a crock? Very hard to do. The true believers or "useful idiots" (in Lenins words) are waking up to the fact that their religion is dying. I would feel sorry for them, as we all make stupid mistakes, except that they were so arrogant when they had the upper hand.
They are withdrawing from the debate now. I notice that there are only a couple left and there's not much fight in them. Just trying to make an exit with as much grace as possible under the circumstances.
