As far as I am aware non resident taxpayers can not use the Australian franking credit to offset tax liability in another country. It becomes a gift to the Australian government!! If you are registered as a non-resident taxpayer in Australia I believe there would be withholding tax withheld from dividends and the double taxation agreement between Australia and NZ would allow you to use the withholding tax payment to offset your NZ tax liability. Better check with your NZ accountant. I am a non-resident taxpayer in NZ and that is how it works in reverse.
