As SUZEQ says the full report is interesting....

Carbon reduction aside, the blocks are being produced for about 50% less cost than OPC sourced blocks, plus they are lighter and stronger. (the koalin mix is about the same cost as OPC, the benefit is that the koalin mix can bind with fly ash from power stations/slag and other very cheap waste products)

No kiln process - MSC use simple blending (secret mix)

As James says, the testing has been completed (by Mahaffey Associates) - technology is proven.

Issue is raising cash (working capital) in order to roll out to the world.

"couple of million tonnes of finished product in 3 years."
MSC can get a better price for virtually no refining than for existing kaolin products. (95% recovery from the ground)
Also, bauxite overburden will be removed by Gulf Alumina plus MSC will piggy back shipping costs.

This reminds me of FMG before they took off, back then no-one believed FMG as their share price went higher and higher.

Cape York kaolin in low carbon cement replacement

An Australian mining company says their Cape York kaolin mine could become one of the great industrial mineral success stories in the world, if demand takes off for a low carbon cement product.

Ordinary Portland Cement production is one of the world's worst polluters, responsible for over two billion tonnes of CO2 each year.

Minerals Corporation says kaolin clay from the Skardon River is being used in a cement replacement product they've created with a Sydney inventor, which has a 90 per cent lower carbon footprint.

Not only that, Minerals Corp says it weighs less, costs less and consists of waste products found just about everywhere.

Director, James Marsh admits it's been a tough year for the company with the Global Financial Crisis hurting them badly, but he says 2010 will be a defining year for his company.

He says their low carbon cement replacement is already being used by a Sydney company producing building blocks, while one of North America's biggest builders has also shown interest.

"(We've got) A shipment going to America which is going to one of the biggest construction companies in the world and they've got a market share of seventy per cent in north America."

"Now after doing a couple of years work with us they've have put in the first order for a container - we'd be looking for some massive orders coming through from them."

Mr Marsh says other potential end users from the UK and Asia will visit Australia early next year to see how the low carbon cement replacement performs.

"We are actually bringing them all over to Australia early in January so they can visit the block production."

"They are going to see the blocks coming out and then we are going to take them to Skardon River and see the kaolin plant so once you've seen it with your own eyes and know it's 100 per cent true then the whole thing is going to pick up speed dramatically," Mr Marsh says.
