I don’t have an opinion one way or another re shorters but there is a counter argument that could suggest that anyone willing / prepared to invest in the stock market should be aware of the risks of doing so. Swim with sharks you risk being bitten by them. The stock market is intrinsically more risky than the other forms of investment. Every type of investment option out there is prefaced by the guidance to “seek finance advice”. Dunno but it’s a conundrum that isn’t going to go away. ASIC are a toothless tiger in even the most corporate of delinquencies - they’d be more useless in respect of the retail punter. There would need to a legislative appetite for it (shorting) to be outlawed IMO.
