kincela,
in wa 30yrs ago govt gave low int loans to drought proof wheatbelt farms.dams to be minimum5000yds and must have man made catchment of 1 acre.A downpour of an inch of rain would fill dam.
My point being NONE of the dams for the cities have catchments, they have trees to the edge of water.Natural inflows, creeks etc, have long been diverted by farming, roads, civilization etc
One reason put forward by some govt poonce some years back was wildlifewould fall in water and die!!!
I come from a 12/14 inch{marginal rainfall]area so if you put in the effort there is ample rain for stock.
Now a city dweller i think its a crying shame watching all the rainwater from the roads flowing into a drain going nowhere.
