Not a grain grower, so not an authority but in NSW and Qld winter crops will be in and summer crops will get a major boost from this rain. On top of this soil moisture for next years crop will benefit and looks like there will be runoff which will benefit irrigation farmers. Its all about next years crop now as this years figures are pretty well known now. The malt business will give GNC a bit more stability when seasons are poor, so its probably not a bad growth path to choose. Closing the loss making merchendising business will also save them some money after this year. As far as competition goes I think they are more likely to gain some business from AWB than vice versa, and ABB is now foreign owned which may put a few farmers off.
