I think the bigger issue is the overall economics of the project as the capital investment required to build a storage dam with enough capacity to drive large turbines for 10+ hours, the purchase of turbines/generators, massive pumps, battery storage, constructing the tunnels, etc. is HUGE! Weigh this against only generating during peak periods and/or when other renewables are not generating (no wind, low sunlight) and assuming (BIG assumption) that the cost of power from renewables will decrease over time impacting future revenues. I'd love to see the economic modelling for this pumped-hydro scheme ... no doubt it's technically feasible, but is it economically feasible, or just another fanciful white elephant in a green dream?
