You raise a very good question (albeit not exactly answering mine). A question which I've also considered myself.
At this point, would you not agree that there's cause for concern around a power imbalance (whether substantiated or not) which means that government contracts have the potential to be awarded less on individual merit, and more so to the highest political donor? (I'm not asking if you believe it to be the case, but rather that you might accept that it's a valid concern)
Do you see it ethical for any government contractor to be donating to a political party? Why should commercial organisations that deal with the government be donating to political parties at all?
Just because they all might do it. Does it make it an acceptable practice?
Would you not agree that it is a perfect conduit for a government to take tax payers dollars and redirect them back into their party?
It's my opinion that no government contractor should be allowed to donate to a political party. That way it removes any doubt that government contracts are being influenced by donations. Would you not agree that that is a far more robust policy than remaining willfully ignorant?
