You are right - I'm conflating some different historical "innovation" programs - I don't have a perfect memory and my world doesn't completely revolve around this. Same thing happened though - the government grants were awarded to large companies, not disruptors, the projects fell over, the disruptors were near fatally wounded after the shareholders felt shafted.

... and I didn't lecture - I just pointed out my (admittedly flawed) recollection of how this sort of stuff panned out in the past with a view to people not being too surprised when history repeated (as it already seems to have done in WA). Despite share holders in companies like ECT feeling a grant is a lay down misere it is rare for small companies to get the nod so please don't bet your house on it.

I'll be very happy if ECT turns out to be the exception and they get some money.
