milesg I am pleased you at least agree that the originaly proposed GST would have been better than what we got.
I don't have figures available so I can not argue specifics about GST/tax free threshold and I notice you have not produced any figures either. I am just putting up ideas for consideration at this stage anyway.
I do not accept that the tax burden through GST falls unfairly on the poor. Under our existing income tax system the working class PAYG taxpayer gets hit hardest and the rich have tax minimization schemes.
Also, regards the rich not spending their money and hence not paying enough tax under GST....not so, in nearly every case the rich spend up to support their lavish lifestyles and even the few who don't eventually pass their fortune on to their heirs and they spend it.
