it was a deadly pandemic... its now no longer such a virulent virus fortunately.... it has evolved, mutated to become, as did SARS and MERS (also coronaviruses) before covid-19.
there remains however the potential for the next mutation to have a resurgent virulence, but I doubt this will happen now. But even omicron b.2 can kill small children and otherwise healthy adults as well as those who are immunocompromised.
