You cant help but get excited about the next 6-12 months with WBT.

The reality as I see it is that customers were (are) never going to sign anything without seeing the demo chips to be able to test, touch and design their product needs. Im assuming that customers still don't actually have the demo chips as they would need to be characterized and qualified before being sent out... but not too much longer to wait!

Also, while its great to have Skywater moving towards 'volume' production, the reality is that at 130nm it is not 'mass' production. At the 130nm scale there are plenty of specialist needs which make up a sizable market, but its definitely not going to unlock the "every electronic device in the world" market.

Im hoping that 'mass' production will come about once the technology is available at 22nm... on the assumption that the 'most advanced fabs' in the world' are also the biggest!.

I assume that WBT having spoken to these fabs, are working on the node that those fabs want to be operating at going forward (22nm). This seems to make commercial sense for the advanced fabs because it automatically makes flash at 40nm redundant (in addition to all the other benefits), and gives these fabs a competitive edge over fabs that cant manufacture at those smaller nodes.

Given the cost and time required to qualify each node I guess these fabs would rather be up and running at a scale which gives them some commercial runway once they have made that investment, rather than just jumping on the 130nm, 40nm or 28nm which are already possible.

All guess work though so DYOR. Whatever the case great to see a quarterly with plenty of progress.
