Some clarification for @Drum in sync's embarrassingly ignorant and misinformed posts on this forum yesterday. (nb. This posters mission is to "wind you up") - see here...
The whole Ga-banintha ore body is chemically weathered (oxidised) at surface (less so down south where TMT's satellite deposit is). This results in lower Vanadium recovery percentages from surface (the part we'll all be mining first).
AVL has forecast in recent BFS LOM recovery to concentrate (after beneficiation of ore) of 74.2%. We'd all like this to be higher but this is about standard for weathered Vanadium-containing titanomagnetite ores.
It is then concentrated further using pyro/hydrometalurgical methods. Here 90% is recovered (to 99.5% V2O5 purity) and 10% lost. You can do a quick bit of maths and get an end to end recovery rate...
For comparison TMT stated in their 2019 Ga-banintha DFS an end to end recovery of their oxidised ore of just 55%. Excerpt...(The massive transitional ore, which has been used as the basis of design for the processing plant and represents about 50% of plant feed for the first three years, after which it rapidly reduces to less than 5% of feed, has an end-to-end recovery of 55%).
This number was never going to be good enough, and it is clear AVL have refined their processing circuit well to account for oxidised ores. AVL differentiates itself strongly from its peers by demonstrating a detailed technical understanding of processing Vanadium from the (weathered) Ga-banintha ore body...
