Meanwhile, the factors that have contributed to the current European gas crisis will only last for a finite amount of time. Either the Russian invasion of Ukraine ends through any number of ways or Europe diversifies its way out of its reliance on gas.

And these two two expectations are wrong.

Ukraine could have (and should have) surrendered their Russian regions long ago but they are being pushed to fight by US/NATO. The US/UK wants war with Russia. The situation is not going away any time soon and wider war is coming. Nonetheless diversifying away from Russian gas would take years to build out.
