Yes,very trues of the agricultural side of things that's why it was called the bread basket of USSR. However, its resource wealth far greater exceeds even Russia in Iron,Titanium,Mercury,Magnesium,Manganese etc.

What Putin got interested here is none of them. Its Ukrainian nuclear capacity. There's plenty of theories of behind the invasion. As former oligarch Khodorkovsky said, Putin does not give a sheet about NATO but he fears the next nuclear superpower to be next door. Ukraine possess high quality uranium & four processing nuclear enriching plants already. Add the wealth they can generate from resources & agriculture, with the right leadership sky is the limit. Thats why Russia has been destabilising Ukraine since 1991 and that's why Germany was reluctant to supply weapons to Ukraine at the start of this war.

i think the discovery of oil at East Ukie land has something to do with it.

no one was interested in ukie land until oil was discovered in 2010.

Then suddenly NATO , EU and Ruskies wanted Ukie land
