Hey Brab, all great points Sir with the typical dive into the detail we've come to expect..

As always, it is a thought provoking read..

And not that it means squat but here's mine.. And apologies as I don't have ready access to the working spreadsheet so forgive me for lack of pictorials & factual slips if evident..

TBH, I've always felt that the company was intent on both licensing the tech & selling the IP since the beginning..

Promotional material always portrayed the two battlefronts of mobile devices & data storage (cloud) as being the target markets..

And since the tech was tunable to either flash or dram type characteristics then it meant you could license to an HGST and still sell to a mobile market player without overlapping too much..

Mobile platforms making use of the Reram as Dram replacement & storage the stacked terabyte ultra fast Nand replacement..

New in memory computing structures, system on chip and everything else blurs the lines a little for me but thats how I see it.

WDC has since 2016 stated that 3D BICS Reram is their way forward after Nand reaches its limit.. I see no change to that intent, other than internal issues & the current macro environment making that a more complex pathway to tread since around Aug last yr..

And forgive me if I'm wrong but unless "the dige" had aspirations of taking on the big 3 then they had no use or application for the nv dram reram product.

But a major mobile maker most def would..

So if you were to license the use of Reram Nand, then It wouldn't impact the sale greatly up the other end depending on who you were selling to?

No real string to it & especially if some of WDC's flash is in your product (they do have circa 45% of the market) then you can work quite happily..

Personally, I think WDC had seen enough awhile ago to know it would work as a Nand replacement when the time comes, so they went off to salvage the Kioxia deal.

Those still in the market were the current dram crowd who may well have been curious as to whether it would work just as well in that space..

Some time back McKinsey published a paper that highlighted the fact that only Intel & Samsung at the time had the cash to develop below the 22nm node.

And whilst the nodes have gotten smaller the same maximum applies..

Only those with deep pockets will have the runway to push an advanced node concept into production.

So the foray down to min geometry on the Imec bench, when it wasn't req to produce a megabit chip offering, speaks loud & clear to the possible target audience/adopter of a faster than dram replacement emerging technology. IMO

HGST have first right of refusal to negotiate should a bid emerge whilst the JDA is in place, though not sure of any sunset clauses should it lapse & a license there on offer if they choose not to bid.. Already in the box seat so why move or do anything?

The selling point, isn't Nand (WDC & others have known for years the logical progression from bics was to 3D Reram) it's the new non volatile Dram that is for sale..

Yes it can do both, but not at once.. It's tuned one way or the other during the production process..

To outputs equals two ways to capitalise.. So for me it still goes two ways...

Of course I aint got no sauce so take it all as the ranting of a crazed fool..

    GLTAH 8tey

p.s PIAI spac, if it is part of the end game will cease to exist in Sep 22.. It had a finite lifespan & has to transition before that date or de-spac and disappear..

So if its going to happen we should know 2-3m prior by my reckoning..
