I should clarify what I meant by localised.
Each of those wars mentioned wasn't a fair contest, there was a technically superior force against a disadvantaged force. The disadvantaged force wasn't really able to threaten the opposing force beyond its geography (ignoring random asymmetric terror events by dissidents abroad). Thus the majority of fighting was confined to that region in a military sense. There are now multiple domains this war is happening in - there is an ongoing and slightly hidden but massive cyber war, the info war, and the economic war which don't really have discernable borders or boundaries.
There is more of a domino effect of cascading repercussions with alliances and politics here. Japan recently declared the Russian occupied islands since WW2 as it's ancient northern territories, whilst providing equipment to Ukraine and participated in Sanctions, which made Russia leave ongoing 80yr old peace talks about them. I concede your point about Bin Laden, that was world shaping - although it was 20yrs in the making. If Reagan and those CIA guys had a crystal ball...
