Gee whizz, you could trawl the entire Liberal party backbench, and the best you would come up with would be some failed small-businessmen, reckless gamblers, mediocre in almost every respect, self-interested, ill-informed, and many are just plain dopes!
The latest successfull recruits for the 'cheap seats' in Howard's "do as I say or else" corporation (in the old days a political party) are simply more of the same bright eyed, eager to please sychophants. Self-interested, vacuuous, class-driven 'wannabies'. There's nothing wrong with that in the free-market, but we are talking about governing the collective here ...right?
Your archetypal Liberal backbencher has been very busy all his life, protecting his own interests and his own wealth in the marketplace ...he/she can't see the difference in government...always championing the 'I' and not the the 'We'... always deperately trying to prove himself as so much 'better' than those 'other' Australians... when in reality they are no different.
Mediocre to the extent that they don't bother informing themselves about the things necessary to govern the collective, the people. You know, it was once called having a 'policy' on something ... that's right policy and they come from an individual's informed opinions about the world (you don't find these on your small-business cash-flow statement). Perhaps some world history, geo-strategic knowledge, macro-economics, law, sociology, philospophy, you know, all those things that used to be necessary for a person to properly consider themselves a representative of the people.
Liberal backbenchers are generally ill-informed, lazy sychophants. That makes for poor, lazy, myopic, spineless and inevitably dangerous policy. It also makes bad television, the ABC know that, because generally your Lib benchbencher will have nothing worldly to offer, nothing interesting or from the heart except "us vs them" statements...you know fuk the workers they are making us poorer...fuk the refugees etc etc. No they will simply parrot the latest 'Howard' generated spin, out of a genuine fear of being rebuked by their leader.
Ever noticed how Libs never cross the floor, ever, ...on anything?...Of course you do need a firmly held belief, a real idea of your own, to be in a position to cross the floor on something... Lib backbenchers have no real long term policies for Australian citizens as a whole, except a vague notion of the merit of free enterprise...a notion which is sorely undermined by their personal primal urges to preserve their own wealth at the expense of other Australians.
The Liberal backbencher also desires to climb the 'corporate' sorry...party ladder and this means 'do not step out of line boy'. It doesn't look good for the Australian people now does it? Remember them?
Oxygen thieves, one and all, thankfully the ABC know it.... give me Peter Garrett any day...
