97 patients. Comparison of Integra to BTM. Some methodological issues because Integra primarily in burn patients and BTM in trauma. However, would say that BTM used for more "complex" wounds - Poorly vascularized wound bed, etc. BTM had higher "template infection" but SIGNIFICANTLY lower skin graft failure and need for secondary surgery (primary healing over the temple). People may latch on to template infection thing but that was just the term we used to describe a fluid collection under a portion of the template. Key point here is that this did not result in loss of the template (as you would see with a biologic). Despite this there was no difference in definitive wound closure between the two. And BTM is way cheaper as a product. We also did not calculate indirect savings as a result of decreased need for revision / secondary surgery.
