Haha, this is a mulit-generational shorting opportunity. Joyce isn't providing guidance updates on the absolute slamming that oil prices will soon have on its cashflow and shareholders aren't smart enough to see the connection.

You can imagine the stress that QAN executives are having right now as their fuel hedges expire at the end of next month: hedge fuel costs at these tremendously high prices or expose yourself to the spot market with the very real risk that the war in Ukraine prolongs and prices go even higher.

The only reason that oil isn't higher already is because the US Government is quietly drawing down on its strategic oil reserves. But that can't last forever. I predict that oil will go even higher soon but, in any case, oil above around $90 per barrel was hugely problematic for Qantas at the best of times. Now the airline is in a post-covid hangover with permanently lower business travel and it's got record levels of debt and no tangible assets on its balance sheet. The company discloses a negative book value on its statements... LOL. What times we live in!

It's amazing to see that, somehow, $QAN has turned into a meme stock that is completely detached from reality. Anybody thinking that this company has good prospects needs to get their head checked.
