You make money on trends not these whipsawing prices. Trends take time to form. You buy a bit higher and sell at the right time. That might mean giving back the gains. In the end you have made a few quid. Now you repeat and repeat and slowly build up. Each year if you beat the index by a minimum of 5% you would do well.
You are probably focused on making 1000% return in one go. You can. But u will eventually give it back because you had no winning strategy.
Take a look at the James Hardie, DMP, JBH, RMD, RIO charts... good results but see what the share price did to those who thought buying early was a good idea pre result.
