The regulations that the AEC have to follow caused a window of a few days that meant iso people were going to miss out on voting unless they broke iso. They weren't eligible for phone voting according to the rules Government came up with. Now that the Minister is going to change the rules we might see the phone system crash with people on hold.
The AEC is having staffing problems due to Covid related issues. They put out a call for people to sign up to be available to work because thay always get no shows on the day that they want to cover. Regional areas experiencing the biggest staffing issues. Presumably there are more people getting Covid than was planned for. Now they are playing catch up.
AEC Staffing:
Our 105,000 workforce across Australia has had approximately 10-15 per cent turnover in the past week alone and this risk will continue right up until 8am tomorrow. As a result some polling places will operate on reduced staffing and queues are inevitable.
