It does make is easier for BIG BROTHER to control and watch over people more easily. But it doesn't solve anything. If someone wanted to REALLY fake one it would be easily done.
Can you imagine the wonderful uses of a national identity card? It could even come to the point that you were not allowed to use any public transport without first swiping your card. Similarly you are not allowed to enter any individual shop or shopping centre without first swiping your card. You're not allowed to make a cash purchase (if cash is still permitted) without first swiping your card.
Eliminate cash and one can fight organised crime etc. etc. much better, so for "your protection" it is only a matter of time before we have cashless societies.
I hate to think of the totalitarian "democracies" people will be foisted with for their "own protection" in 50 years time.
