    Hi @LHI 14,

Apologies for the tag, but reply function is down on this thread (able to reply on another thread).

There are specialist vet hospitals for oncology, these days. A lot of BP have large veterinary divisions also, Pfizer, Merck, Bayer, to name a few. Lots of human drugs used in animals. You might just not notice because they are dispensed into generic containers by Vets.

It certainly wasn’t a far fetched comment of @Digger59, & if it is licenced out or bought out, & clinical trials are shown to be safe in animals (species specific), it could happen.

We have to get through the human trials first. I think this new thread was worth starting.

Our furry friends are part of our families too & if you have ever had a pet with a cancer diagnosis, it’s pretty devastating & very expensive without pet insurance.

I went the palliative path with Care from our local vet with my dog (analgesia & lots of TLC) - due to his age 14yo (at life expectancy +/- for his breed/s x) the extent of surgery needed & then chemo.

I don’t think he would have tolerated surgery & treatment well at all, so I believe what we did was the kindest thing in the circumstances until QOL of life diminished & affecting ADLS. Then we got the vet out to give him the green dream at home. It was peaceful & he didn’t suffer.

If there was an immunotherapy that could have treated the primary tumour & any metastases at the time, without the need for chemo & radical surgery, & side effects that affect QOL, I would have gone ahead with that.

If he was younger, it would have been a whole different story.

    Thanks Digger.
