Grange moves to stem port expansion fears

Grange Resources says the benefits of its plan to expand Albany port will outweigh any adverse impact on local businesses or the environment.

Concerns have been raised about plans to deepen the channel to Princess Royal Harbour and dump millions of cubic metres of dredging material near the entrance to King George Sound.

Grange's managing director Russel Clarke says the expansion will boost the local economy and disruption to the environment will be minimal.

"The broader community in Albany see there's an opportunity for jobs, for the provision of services, for an operation that will actually be located away from the chief city and therefore really minimise the amount of disturbance that happens within the city itself," he said.

The Environmental Protection Authority will rule on the port expansion in the coming weeks.
