Also, the Russian oil and gas industry are geared to sell to Europe. It's all very well to say 'oh Russia will just sell to Asia instead' (excluding Japan, excluding South Korea, excluding Singapore, excluding Taiwan). Firstly, Asia is already buying as much as it needs from Russia, they can't just create an additional Europe-sized demand out of thin air. Secondly, all the infrastructure, the pipelines, the workers are all set up to sell to Europe, they are all in western (European) Russia. You can't just pick all this up and move it to eastern Siberia at the drop of a hat.
