Constant stream of advertising emphasising discount prices from all large chains means customers can compare and bargain with salesstaff to get even a cheaper deal. A friend of mine used to sell electrical goods at HVN. She said customers sometimes wouldn't even leave home. they would ring 4 stores and then go to that offering the cheapest price. I used to visit JBH stores reguarly to get a feel for things. Shops were generally qite busy but I'd notice a highish staff turnover. Don't make sales target by month 2 and your're on-yr-bike. Hence, many stores (not just JBH) have staff with minimal product knowledge and under huge pressure to make their sales target. Low prices=small margins. Next month will reveal how 2H10 was. Meanwhile i still feel $20 is under threat.... finally!! I am still overseas. Are electrical retailors still offering post-Christmas markdowns?
