True. I was lucky enough to know the importance of setting stop losses early on rationally at profit marks, but it's not a habit everyone has. I think key lessons are always to not get emotionally attached to a stock (it's just stock #57) so you can be objective about the business. I agree that almost everyone was expecting it to be another Afterpay. Many started sounding the alarm when the directors were printing shares at an alarming rate. Filling their pockets, the wife's super fund, some other family members - and strangely managing to sell at the 'perfect' times during market peaks.

This was at a time when Afterpay wasn't printing millions of shares, and comparatively their SP was far less liquid, meaning if you wanted to buy APT, you had to pay what someone would be happy to sell them for. Hen's teeth equivalent of trading, not common as seawater like ZIP shares.

I feel for anyone who has been on this rollercoaster (more like just a drop down a mineshaft). Zip has educated tens of thousands of people in the effects of dilution, and also the risks of buying into barely-solvent companies who are essentially surviving on hype and flashy presentations. They'll definitely need to cap raise soon, and as @Goodfella58 said - the amount of shares they're going to need to print to make any money is going to be devastating to any existing holders. Going the way of those generic ExploraCorp mineral exploration companies who do nothing but print shares.

TLDR; Set stop losses, watch for runaway dodgy dilution, check the books, and don't fall for flashy presentations.
