Its a source of great shame and has been regarded as such since. Do you feel that banning of literature is acceptable ? Burning of books perhaps? Yes, it is totally understandable as a reaction against all things Russian. But it is the role of governments to stop gut reactions from becoming policy. Do not minimise this. You know what it leads to from historical precedent. Im sure many on the Allies side wished to ban Mozart, Beethoven etc and all German philosophy , but they didnt, because the Allied governments made a clear statement that "we are not like them and we do NOT behave like them. Thats why they had Nuremburg and not random kangaroo courts. Perhaps you can advise if any German authors or composers or artists were banned during WW2 ? May be they were and I am an incorrect.

Your faux outrage is hilarious. If opposition to wartime censorship (rather than opposition to war) is your thing, wait til you hear about the censorship in a country called Russia - you'll burst an artery!
