    Putin wanted Ukraine to surrender quickly and got misinformation from his own intelligence agency this was expected and that's why he was pissed off with them and sacked and placed them on house arrest.

    He wanted the timeframe to be like the last 2 times he invaded Ukraine where Russia was able to ride out the lesser sanction and economy impact to Russia. The longer the invasion has lasted, the more severe the sanction and economy impact to Russia,

    Now he has pretty much single handily put Russia's economy back to the post USSR era which will take decades if not ever able to recover from. So, no this wasn't what he set out to achieve.
