If Australian pollies had a brain they would be mandating massive easy fast turnaround (one or two year project) solar/wind farms and dictating massive battery capacity. (left out hydro as I cant see how that can be fastracked due to enviromental concerns)
Moving away from Petrol and Diesel will take decades due to cars/planes/trains/trucks/ships that will use Oil.
But within two to three years Australia could be totally fossil fuel free for electricity generation. Oil at $60 it would be too much money but with oil at $120 plus long term, it will be money well spent.
