Because nobody is going to puchase houses with currently insanely high market price to hedge the inflation? less mortgage coming means less income expectation for banks, but over years, I am just guessing, bank will still make more money from real estates already been sold, because nodody now can pay all mortgage in once or in few years and all fixed rate offers will be expired.
